The Sweetheart Who Started
it All
Tara, the wide-eyed,
fun-loving sweetie in our logo, is actually the real live (and very
lucky) treasured pet of Tara’s Place owners Chris and Heather Tompkins. When the couple rescued her as
Heather’s birthday present years ago, the shelter form said “yellow lab
mix”
– but breed aficionados know right away – most of that mix is Rhodesian
Ridgeback (and there’s probably a little Vizsla in there too).

The quiet, gentle pup soon became the trio’s missing link, a vital
family member and sheer inspiration for the couple to change their
lives forever!

Successful video producers for over a decade, www.videoatlanta.com,
the Tompkins’ shared a dream of breaking free from all things corporate
(as well as a life-long love for all things four-legged and furry.)
Client meetings and video shoot days often made for busy work weeks –
sometimes taking them out of town or out of the country. Every spare
moment was spent with Tara and often outdoors. Camping, hiking and dog
parks became their haunts, as they did everything they could to make
their precious girl as happy as she had made them.
Several challenging years of research and fund-raising later, Chris,
Heather and Tara escaped to the beautiful wooded countryside of
Nicholson, GA, opening Tara’s Place.
So come on in and meet Tara – and
Chris and Heather too! It is their sincere wish that this special place
will continue providing a safe, clean, well-organized and loving second
home for your dear furry friends for many years to come.

What’s a Rhodesian Ridgeback?

The Rhodesian Ridgeback or African Lion Dog, dates back to the early
16th century when the breed hunted large game in the South African
grasslands.
